Keeping with the theme of tax preparation for the new year, this month we're highlighting Sean Perkins of Mobility Labs. Sean and his company launched in Washington, D.C., in 2011, and has since expanded his offices and his team to include both New York City as well as Medellin in the District of Columbia. Whenever a company or its founder goes international, it's important to put the right controls in place and comply with all the necessary tax laws. This is where Xcelerate Financial has been able to help.

But first, more on Sean and Mobility Labs, both of which are doing some pretty amazing and socially-conscious things.

Mobility Labs was created for one specific reason: to help education and social impact organizations develop effective and sustainable technology tools and strategies. Sean partners with purpose-driven organizations, many of which are in the education or non-profit space, and takes part in web development, web design, systems administration, technical training, and the building of educational software.

It all started back in 2011 when Sean launched Mobility Labs as a web development company for local small businesses in Washington. He founded the company as a way to apply comprehensive, user-centric methods to help solve challenges for companies and organizations with a social impact. His web development work - along with his company's altruistic message - helped Sean grow his organization from a small dev shop to a major development company that works with the likes of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Literacy Design Collaborative, and the Laura & John Arnold Foundation.

Specifically, Shawn and his growing team of developers, designers, content strategists, and educational experts, partnered with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to create a digital toolkit to help school districts and education partners with professional development for teachers. Called PDredesign, it offers a readiness assessment for teachers and also helps school districts identify additional technology and data that help with the assessments.

According to Sean, these assessments "represent your technology and data footprint," which allows for further analysis.

As Shawn goes on to tell us, "at Mobility Labs, we have a passion for meaningful work."

However, that meaningful work has taken Shawn around the globe and back again. He splits his time between the U.S. and Medellin, where he enjoys hiking and trying new types of coffee. It's also caused Mobility Labs to work with corporations, small businesses, and 501c3 non-profits, all of which creates the necessity for a unique approach to financial management and tax preparation.

While Sean continues to make a difference, we at Xcelerate Financial help him by creating financial controls for Mobility Labs, leading their accounting and financial processes, and helping with tax preparation and filings. We're happy to do what we can to help Sean and his company pursue their mission to make a positive impact in the world.
